Enabling a Hybrid Cloud

Take advantage of external cloud services today, by extending your internal cloud with a Univa Hybrid Cloud solutions.

With a Hybrid Cloud enabled, companies can utilize 3rd party Cloud Providers in a full or partial (cloud burst) manner, in order to supplement internal cloud capabilities and increase the flexibility of computing.

With a Hybrid Cloud enabled, companies enjoy the following benefits:

  • More flexible computing capacity
  • Continued reduction in capital expenses (CAPEX) through purchase avoidance
  • Significant reduction in IT operating expenses (OPEX)
    • Reduced need for IT management
    • Lower direct hardware support costs such as utility expenses for power and cooling

Solution Description

A Univa Hybrid Cloud leverages external or public 3rd party Cloud computing services (such as Amazon EC2) as an extension to Univa systems software, providing a pay-per-use model for computing on demand. This solution provisions and scales capacity on the public cloud infrastructure, expanding baseline resources through dynamic provisioning for peak demand.

The Hybrid Cloud enables a flexible, on-demand approach to satisfying computing requirements for companies who are not ready to invest in a full-scale data center upgrade or want to avoid significant new hardware purchases. This solution greatly reduces up-front capital expenses and offers low-cost, unified monthly billing.

What’s Included

The Hybrid Cloud offering consists of infrastructure management and systems management extensions that allow companies to build computing resources in a public cloud. Essentially, the Hybrid Cloud takes the functionality of the Private Cloud and delivers this in a service-based paradigm outside the corporate firewall.

The Hybrid Cloud allows customers to:

  • Create virtual cluster resources in cloud infrastructure
  • Reduce fees associated with data movement
  • Eliminate firewall and security issues
  • Manage job placement

Univa’s Hybrid Cloud solution supports Amazon EC2 with full support available for RHEL and Oracle Enterprise Linux.
